Be Safe: Practice Smart Shopping

As much as I love to shop, I am very conscious of how much I spend each day, week, month and especially year. I am aware of my expenses and I keep track of what I am spending money on so I can evaluate any unnecessary purchases. While there are many apps and budgeting tools available online, I typically keep track of expenses right on my iPhone. At the end of each month I look back at the records of the things I have bought (a lot of clothes) and then plan out my budget for the following month. It's important to know what you can and cannot afford so as to avoid overspending. Despite the not-so-subtle opinions of the older generations, I think millennials are equipped with all of the necessary tools to become financially stable. Since I am a big believer in treating oneself and buying things that bring personal happiness I think it's important to stay on top of financial matters. Keep track of your bank account(s) like it is your job. I can't reiterate enough just how important it is to do this, no matter what your age is. Rather than just glancing at your balance every few days you should make a habit of logging on to your bank's website as assessing exactly what you have spent that day. The pimped out coffee may have seemed necessary at the time you bought it but when you see "Starbucks - $4.50" over and over again on your account it makes you consider bringing your own coffee from home (voice of experience). By keeping an eye on your purchases you can evaluate the areas that may need to be shifted in order to save some of your hard earned cash. Pay close attention to what you're spending your money on so that you can be strategic with your budgeting. Happy spending!
